the 2010s were a decade we experienced. ups and downs. thrills, chills and spills. But what you definitely can say for it as a decade is: there was a lot of movies in it, many of them good.
everyone out there is clamoring and wants to know: what were the best movies of the decade? what will we look back on fondly? surprisingly, literally no one has written any sort of list or official ranking on this subject. That is, until now.
What you are about to be subjected to over the course of the next year is one of the most comprehensive and ambitious writing projects you’ll ever see. It came to me in a dream, as if a message from god: what if you made a list of 150 of the best movies from the past 10 years and tried to figure out, systematically and objectively, what the best movie was?
That’s right: 150 movies, the best and brightest, will fight for supremacy to be called “the best movie of 2010, 2011, etc”. Many will enter, few will win. Ten, to be exact. Like the Beyonder, I have crafted the perfect battlefield for competition, and brought those films here to compete for pleasure and glory, and for the chance to say, 100% objectively and without a doubt, that they were the best their year had to offer.
Now, you may be asking: what movies precisely are going to be on this list, in this competition? The answers will be revealed to you in due time, as there’s some movies I still need to see a first time in order to determine if they’re worthy of battle. My plan at this time is to do a year a month, with 2010 in January, 2011 in February, 2012 in March, etc and so on, and our challengers will be revealed before each month in question…unless I choose otherwise.
You may also be asking: what if a movie I love isn’t up for competition? what if a movie I love doesn’t win? To which I say: the movie wasn’t good, you should get better taste honestly.
The lights dim, the stage is set, the curtains are about to be drawn. To the victor go the spoils.
